Two New Publications Accompany Temporary Exhibitions at Pera Museum

Pera Museum introduces two new publications accompanying its current exhibitions: Swedish glass artist Åsa Jungnelius’ first solo exhibition in Turkey, A Verse, Written with Earth, Fire, Water, and Air and Feelings in Common: Works from the British Council Collection.

A Verse, Written with Earth, Fire, Water, and Air, unfolds as a poetic journey stretching from the obsidian fields of Eastern Anatolia to the glass furnaces of Denizli and the marbles rooted in Byzantine history. The catalogue features a comprehensive essay by curator Elif Kamışlı, an article by anthropologist Tim Ingold exploring the origins of glass through Jungnelius’s works, and a text by archaeology and cultural heritage professor Bodil Petersson on glass production in Sweden’s Småland region. The publication also includes a rich selection of photographs by Peo Olsson, who accompanied Jungnelius during her research and production process in Anatolia.

The publication accompanying Feelings in Common: Works from the British Council Collection features a curatorial essay by Ulya Soley, alongside writings by Boris Groys (“Logic of the Collection”) and Eliott Burns (“Navigating a Liquid Collection”), which examines the international mobility, logistics, and cultural exchanges of artworks through the metaphor of a “liquid collection.” Additionally, the catalogue includes a selection of poems by C. P. Cavafy, which inspired the David Hockney series presented in the exhibition.

With these two publications, Pera Museum continues to offer readers and visitors a deeper understanding of the artistic dialogues and research processes shaping its exhibitions.
